Best sports car to buy 2022

Car connection The best sports car to buy 2022 combines the functionality of a compact sedan with a raucous driving experience that leaves smiles in its wake: the Hyundai Elantra N 2022.

The Elantra N is on par with the Honda Civic as our top-performing affordable performance car with a 6.8 TCC rating, but our editors give Hyundai an enthusiastic nod to the Civic Si; the new Civic Type R isn’t expected to arrive until next year. Even then, the Elantra N will undermine the price of the next hot Civic hatch. The outgoing Type R started at $ 38,450, but the Elantra N starts at just $ 32,925 with the manual transmission. It offers almost as much performance potential and just as much fun.

The Elantra N owes much of its inspiration to the three-door Veloster N. The two cars share a powertrain and many of the same features. But the Elantra N rides on Hyundai’s next-gen K3 small vehicle platform and softens some of the more edgy aspects of the Veloster’s nature for a vehicle more suited to everyday life.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbo-4 that sends its 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. A 6-speed manual transmission comes standard, with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic as an option. 6-speed will be the only way to go for some enthusiasts, and it features rev matching and a well-weighted linear clutch pedal. But you don’t give up much by going with the automatic, which makes the Elantra N faster at 60 mph (5.0 seconds) and is well programmed for the road and track. In its most aggressive setting, it maintains gears all the way to the red line and eliminates any awkward shifting mid-corner.

Automatic models also feature an NGS (N grin shift) button on the steering wheel, which increases engine output to 286 hp for 20 seconds and shifts the transmission even faster.

The liveliness of the powertrain is matched by the superb handling and poise of the Elantra N. There are no adaptive dampers, but the electronically controlled suspension has three firmness settings that drastically change the way the ride feels. car is driving. The body roll is at its limit, but it does so in a controlled manner and the car quickly regains its balance. The steering feel is about perfect, with lots of feedback and an accelerated gear compared to the standard Elantra.

An electronic limited-slip differential eliminates steering torque and sends extra power to the outer wheel, making the Elantra N feel like it’s being pulled into the corner when you pick up power. It feels incredibly confident for a front-wheel drive car and a set of 245 / 35R 19 Michelin Pro Pilot Sport 4S summer tires also comes standard, giving the sedan plenty of grip.

There are slowness to choose from with the Elantra N. The styling is hit and miss, with a particularly loaded nose and sharp angles acquired in the Elantra’s latest redesign that aren’t for everyone. Inside there are big screens but a lot of budget-friendly plastics and a few less attractive trim pieces. But behind the wheel, you’ll have so much fun that none of it really matters. It’s a deliciously connected car that recalls the pleasure of driving. And this at an ultra-competitive price, showing that cheap speed still exists.
