Skoda’s new sedan has been fully unveiled and is called the Slavia. To replace the Rapid in India, the Slavia would be inserted under the Octavia and would be the second product based on the MQB A0 IN platform that currently sees the Kushaq. Compared to the Rapid, the new Slavia sports a more premium look with the new Skoda grille while the larger dimensions are also visible here. The new Slavia is taller, wider and longer than the Rapid, while claiming to have the longest wheelbase in its class. Even the startup space is claimed to be the biggest in its class.
Interiors also benefit from Skoda’s new design philosophy with a floating touchscreen and the brand’s two-spoke steering wheel. The touchscreen measures 10.1 inches while having all the required features. Further, the Slavia includes leatherette upholstery, a fully digital instrument cluster, power sunroof, connected car technology, ventilated seats and touch controls. There’s also a premium audio system, automatic headlights, and safety features like six airbags, multi-collision brake and cruise control, etc.
Like the Kushaq, the Slavia takes the route of the turbo engine with two turbo gasolines offered. The range starter is a 1.0L turbo petrol with 115 hp and it will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic torque converter. The most powerful version is the 1.5 TSI with 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The 1.5 TSI like the Kushaq is the most powerful turbo petrol engine in its class in terms of horsepower and torque. While the launch would take place next year, the Skavia will compete with high-end midsize cars like the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna.
