REDWOOD CITY (BCN) — The former chief financial officer of a car dealership in Redwood City was sentenced to six months in prison for embezzling more than $40,000 from the business, San Mateo County prosecutors said Thursday. .
Marwan George Mouasher, 40, worked at Toyota dealership 101 for nearly a month in October and November 2018 before quitting abruptly and claiming other managers mishandled contracts, according to the prosecutor’s office. district.

Investigators determined that Mouasher took cash payments from customers, but did not record the payments in the dealership’s records and thus took $42,500 in total. The case was due to go to trial in May 2021 when he did not contest the embezzlement charges, prosecutors said.
On Wednesday, Mouasher was sentenced to six months in county jail from June, along with two years probation, and was ordered to pay $42,500 in restitution to the dealership. He remains free on $50,000 bail, prosecutors said.
